Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was asked during a TV interview this week for the defender who was most challenging for him. He did not hesitate in naming Michigan’s Charles Woodson, his former Green Bay teammate and also an adversary when Woodson played for the Oakland Raiders.
Rodgers said: "Charles is the best player I played with, and he gave me fits on the scout team every week (with the Packers)."
Q: "Would he pick you off in practice?"
A: "Oh, yeah, and then he'd run the ball back to you."
Woodson intercepted 65 passes in the NFL — tied for the fifth most ever.
He picked off eight passes (including two against Ohio State and one in the Rose Bowl) while winning the 1997 Heisman Trophy, and had 16 total for the Wolverines.
Woodson also rushed for 2,028 yards as a senior at Fremont (Ohio) Ross and had a seven-touchdown game.
Few players have ever been so dazzling at every level of the game.
He entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 after getting into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
Woodson and his ‘97 national championship teammates will be honored Oct. 15 before the Penn State game in Ann Arbor as part of their 25-year reunion.
To date, Woodson’s interception at msu remains the most electric individual play I can ever remember.
Peyton who?
