Why did he leave Michigan five years ago? When can he return to Big Ten Network? Which is his favorite team memory? How golf has replaced coaching as an obsession, and what the grandkids do for him
Thom, glad you enjoyed the article on John. He was a real blessing! It would've been fun to talk more at the reunion, but it was good seeing you there and at the football game and chatting a brief bit. UM QB situation is still unsure, but a little better.
“It’s so wonderful being back in touch with an old and dear friend, isn’t it?”
What a wonderfully written story, Steve. Thank you for this. You captured that feeling of falling back into conversation and memories with our closest friends (even if has been a year or two between conversations) so well.
Thanks so much for your thoughts on this story, Adam. You're very observant. And I'm glad you enjoyed the universal appeal of rekindling old friendships, and know that feeling. You can relate to that. That's cool, for sure. I recently attended a high school reunion and that probably sparked that theme for use in this story. This is the kind of storytelling I enjoy most -- the personal stories.
Such a wonderful article from a wonderful writer. The passage of time makes the heart more fond of the prior coaches, and this man was such a great fit. His success was amazing and well deserved but his continued passion for M and his guidance for our current coaching staff brings excitement. Love the way Mr Kornacki explores subjects. Thank you so much!!
So much drunning through my mind right now, from how much I enjoyed watching Coach Beilein’s teams to how much I didn’t know of what he has been going through recently. What I do know is whatcI always knew: he is a class act.
Excellent article. Good stuff. I would love to know the story, or read the book maybe Beilein will have you write, explaining all the factors leading to his decision to leave Michigan for the NBA.
Thanks so much, Bob. I would be honored to write John’s book if such an honor arose. It would be much more than many sports books because he has so much to say on so many topics, people and events. He’s just the best.
Great article about a great guy. We were blessed to have John at Michigan. Glad you made it to the reunion. Sorry I didn’t get much of a chance to talk with you. I look forward to reading more of your behind the scenes articles that are so insightful!

John made it all so much fun and so easy to take pride in his teams for Michigan fans. Class, through and through, for sure.
