As usual, Steve, your piece on Bill Freehan captured more than his essence. You articulated his soul. There’s a reason why the 1968 Tigers were so important to so many of us. They transcended sports. They were ingrained in our being. Syrup-y sentiment, but completely true.

Thanks so much, Bob, for those tremendous compliments. That means a lot to me. You are totally spot on with your thoughts about the '68 Tigers. They were the best and most important team Detroit has ever and probably will ever have. They lived in the community. Many of them were from the community. They were us. Shoot, the '68 Tigers came to Trenton High to play basketball against our teachers and then showed the highlight reel of the season in the auditorium and signed autographs. We were so fortunate to grow up then.
